ITEM [1b]
Mitchell Kennerley, 1915
Go to[1c] Go to[1a]

Re-impression of item [1] (but see note 3), identical except for the following variant elements:

Title Page:
WITH | WALT WHITMAN | IN CAMDEN | (March 28--July 14, 1888) | [short rule 17 mm] | HORACE TRAUBEL | [publisher's device: "MK" enclosed in circle] | NEW YORK | MITCHELL KENNERLEY | 1915
Collation:
(15.0 x 22.2 cm) [unsigned, 1-158 168(-162+x1) 17-358], 280 leaves (see note 1).
Pp. [i-vi] vii-ix [x] xi-xiv [xv-xvi] 1-473 [474-476] [4]; 64 pages unpaginated for plates.
Contents:
v: title (see above). vi: copyright "Copyright, 1905, 1906, by Horace Traubel | Copyright, 1905, by The Century Company | Entered at Stationers' Hall | THE PLIMPTON PRESS | NORWOOD MASS U S A".

Note to Item [1b]:
  1. The character "x" represents here the Greek "chi" character: i.e., an unsigned and uninferred leaf or gathering.
  2. The original Small, Maynard advertisements are reproduced in this reissue.
  3. The sheets of this issue are a re-impression from the plates of item [1]. However, the paper used for the title page and it's conjugate leaf (13.6) is noticeably darker in color from that used in the rest of the book, suggesting that Kennerley may have been re-issuing existing sheets under his own imprint. The fact that the publisher's advertisements were also reprinted may suggest a second impression by Small, Maynard. Until a copy of this second impression is located, however, this is just speculation.
